Decafe does not stand for decaffeinated and it is not the name of some hip new brand of coffee that everyone is drinking, instead it is a coffee light by the Spanish designer Raaul Lauri made from none other than coffee grounds. With the use of energy efficient, low-temperature LEDs, this forward design emits just enough heat to intensify the smell of well, coffee.

Raaul Lauri’s debut collection took home first prize at last month’s Salone Satellite exhibition in Milan, where 700 young designers and design school students exhibited and exchanged ideas. Eager to start production, this aromatic new Decafe collection featuring a bulb that is changing lighting itself (the LED), has not yet established a manufacturer.
To conclude Raaul Lauri’s Decafe statement:
“Decafe is a reflection on the cycle of natural matters that we use on a regular basis. The aim is to give a second life to coffee grounds as a biodegradable and renewable material while taking advantage of its emotional aspects.”
